National Health and Family Planning Commission: This Year We will Basically Complete the National Food Safety Standard System

According to the information on the website of National Health and Family Planning Commission, the food safety conference of the 2015 National Health and Family Planning System was held a few days ago. Jin Xiaotao, the Deputy Director of National Health and Family Planning Commission said at the conference that this year we will complete the standard integration tasks and basically complete the National Food Safety Standard System. Meanwhile, we start surveying the food consumption of Chinese residents and the total diet to enhance the assessment of food safety risks and strengthen the scientific basis of risk assessment. 


Jin Xiaotao pointed out that in 2014, the National Health and Family Planning System performed their duties seriously and further strengthened the food safety risk monitoring, risk assessment, built the food safety standard system, completed the integration of 228 food safety national standards and issued 68 new standards based on the principle of "improving the system, solidifying the foundation and enhancing the ability". National food safety risk monitoring points covering 80% of the county-level administrative regions and monitoring the food of 230,000 categories were increased to 2,489 to timely assess and consult about potential risks and make prevention recommendations. Food-borne disease surveillance sentinel hospitals were increased to 2,000 and the surveillance of food-borne diseases cover 160,000 person-times. We organized risk priority assessment and emergency assessment, started surveying the food consumption in 14 provinces, actively carried out the risk communication, strengthened scientific propaganda and responded to social concerns. 


Jin Xiaotao requires to complete the standard integration tasks and basically complete the National Food Safety Standard System in 2015, further strengthen the implementation of standard propaganda and increase the standard services, seriously implement the 2015 National and Local Risk Monitoring Plan, improve the sensitivity and initiative of the monitoring and perfect the consultation mechanism of risk monitoring result notification, and further standardize the management of food-borne diseases and in a timely manner, report and dispose a food-borne disease and inform to the department. 


Meanwhile, the survey on the food consumption of Chinese residents and the total diet shall be fully initiated to enhance the assessment of food safety risks and strengthen the scientific basis of risk assessment. The propaganda of food safety knowledge shall be further enhanced, and innovation shall be made in public concerns and hot issues to serve the health of the people and food safety.
